Christine Garbe

Regarding my personal background and motivation for this work: In my professional career I have worked as a Professor of German Literature and Literature Education at different German Universities and coordinated big European projects about Literacy and Teacher Education. I have never been a tango professional, but started to become a passionate tango dancer long time ago. My tango career started in 1984 in Berlin and since 2010 I have come almost every year to Buenos Aires to dance and enjoy life in this vibrant city. After I retired some years ago I could finally dedicate much more time to my passion.

In 2022, when I came back after the pandemic-related shutdown, I started writing reports about Tango and Life in BA and published them in Facebook, in Tango Magazines and on Tango Websites. Since early 2025 I built up my own Facebook Group “Tango and Life in Buenos Aires – Christine’s Tango Guide” (https://www.facebook.com/groups/tangoguidebuenosaires2025). Here, I have published numerous articles about the Milongas, the tango culture and daily life in BA and have tried to organize those reports in “Info Guides”. However, searching and finding something in a Facebook group is quite challenging, so I decided that I will offer the relevant content of that group in a website with a clearly structured navigation menu.

But building a website involves technical challenges that are beyond my capabilities. That’s why I was very happy that during my last stay in Buenos Aires, I met a tango dancer who not only shares my passion for tango but is also a professional web designer: Leon Astor. I could engage Leon to build this website with me, and during months we have closely cooperated to realize this project. Leon has contributed his expertise as a web developer to this project. The collaboration with Leon was a great pleasure for me and I am infinitely grateful to him for his help!
